Dona was chosen by Fontspring as one of the best releases of 2019 and I’m extremely happy!
I started designing Dona in 2017. Back then, the biologist, illustrator and brother of mine Christian Beier was starting his illustration studio and asked me to design a logotype for it.
I designed the logo above and then started looking for a typeface that fit what I was imagining for his brand, but I couldn’t find anything that matched exactly what I wanted. So I made the rational decision and set out to design one real quick. What was supposed to be a quick job, measured in months, ended up taking more than 2 years and resulted in Dona.
Two years to design a typeface is not the rule. It is possible to achieve a good result in less time than that. But I’m sure Dona wouldn’t be one of my personal favorites had I rushed the process.
